Factories are common aspects of the skyline in cities and towns around the world. You can learn how to draw a factory with the help of this easy architectural drawing guide.
Factories began during the Industrial Revolution. Instead of one craftsman taking time to make an object, the process was broken down into small tasks. A different person along the assembly line performed each task.
Henry Ford designed a famous assembly line in 1913. The chassis assembly of a car was reduced from more than 12 hours to about an hour and a half.

While factories created jobs and made products more affordable and attainable, they also had a negative side.
Working conditions in many factories were dangerous. And factories like the one in this drawing guide are notorious for creating pollution.
Today, changes are being made in many factories to protect workers and the environment. For example, factories like this one may place filters in the smokestacks that remove toxic materials before the steam enters the air.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Factory
1. Begin by drawing a straight, horizontal line along the horizon or the bottom of your page. Then, use straight lines to enclose a slanted rectangle shape. This is the first of the factory's buildings. Draw its roof by using straight lines to enclose a narrow rectangle on top of it.
2. From the roof of the building, draw two zigzag lines, parallel to one another. Connect them on the end. Then, enclose the side of this portion of the building using a straight, slanted line.
3. Continue to draw the roof of the factory building. Use two straight lines to enclose the parallelogram shape of the nearest roof section. Then, use straight lines to enclose the remaining sections. On the small side of the building, draw an inverted "U" shaped line to form a doorway.
4. Separate the doorway into two doors using a straight line. Then, draw a large rectangle on the side of the building. Draw a circular window beneath each of the peaks of the roof.
5. Draw crossbars across the large rectangular window and the small circular windows. Use horizontal and vertical straight lines that meet at perpendicular angles.
6. Draw the smokestack towers above the building. Use slanted straight lines to draw the sides of the towers, and connect each set with curved lines at the top.
7. Draw a storage silo. Use straight lines to form its rectangle shape. Then, use a curved line to form the semi-circular roof.
8. Detail the smokestacks and the silo. Draw curved lines across the top of each smokestack. Draw a straight, vertical line across the silo, and shade small dots to indicate the rivets just below the roof. Draw tubes coming from the silo, using a pair of curved lines for each. These tubes are used to move materials around the factory.
9. Draw smoke or steam billowing like clouds from the tops of the towers. Use a series of connected curved lines to create the irregular shape.
Color your cartoon factory. Will you make it bright and cheery or dismal? Are those clouds made of clean steam, or are they toxic clouds of pollutants? The choice is yours, and so is the future.
